1 Course description
Endoscopy is an invasive procedure with inherent risk, and procedural complications can occur and lead to significant adverse outcomes. This course aims to support endoscopy nurses in their practice and underpinning the knowledge base required to perform safe and competent endoscopy nursing practice.
Fundamental Practice in Endoscopy Nursing builds on foundational knowledge and skills within clinical gastroenterology. Components of the course will provide students with an understanding of the fundamental knowledge and application of evidence to decision making in the endoscopy setting.

2 Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the participants should be able to
1. Discuss the safety issues within endoscopy in general
2. Define the indications and contraindications for the procedures of Oesophageal-gastro-duodenoscopy (OGD), Colonoscopy and Bronchoscopy
3. Define the risks and complications associated with OGD, Colonoscopy and Bronchoscopy, and appropriate management
4. Outline the principles and practice of patient preparation, including consent, bowel preparation, indications for prophylactic antibiotics and management of anticoagulation / antiplatelet therapy
5. Become familiar with the procedures in relation to infection control and endoscope reprocessing, understanding and maintenance of endoscopic equipment and accessories

Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) points would be offered (For Registered Nurses (General) and Enrolled Nurses (General)).
A Certificate of Attendance will be issued on written request to students who have an attendance of not less than 70% (Administration Fee of CUSCS for per copy would be $50).
