5 Course Content
Module 1: A Brief History of Hong Kong (20 hours)
This module aims to provide participants with an overview of the history of Hong Kong so that they can present a more in-depth explanation when they guide cultural tours in the future.
Module 2: Heritage and Cultural Tourism in Hong Kong: Principles and Practice (20 hours)
This module aims to enable students to understand the characteristics of Hong Kong's historical monuments and intangible cultural heritage. It also covers the planning and design of journeys, professional knowledge and skills of guiding in order to enable participants to explore, and design heritage and cultural routes with regional characteristics. It is intended that they can become docents to guide clients to recognize and appreciate the heritage and culture of Hong Kong.
Module 3: Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage (20 hours)
This module aims to introduce to participants the characteristics of Hong Kong's intangible cultural heritage through classroom teaching, and the skills demonstration or illustration from the “heir of intangible cultural heritage”.
Module 4: Community Practice of Cultural Guiding (30 hours)
The purpose of this module is to help students experience the actual operations of community cultural guiding, and improve their communication and collaboration skills. It is hoped that they can make use of the principles learnt to design the routes and set the focus of community cultural guiding. Through “simulated community cultural guiding”, participants can understand the needs of community cultural guiding, the feasibility of route design, and their strengths and weaknesses in the process of guiding. They may recognize different cultural projects more through the simulation. They will need to lead their instructor and peer participants to walk through the route in order to demonstrate its feasibility on the spot.
