APRU Student Global Climate Change Simulation

 

The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is now inviting undergraduate and postgraduate students to apply for the Student Global Climate Change Simulation which will take place this summer.

The programme is a role-playing exercise where students from 14 APRU member universities will form multi-country, multi-disciplinary teams to play the role of delegates to the UN Climate Change Negotiations. Over two sessions in two days, an online simulation activity will be held using materials from the World Climate Interactive and the EN-ROADS simulation model developed by MIT. These live sessions will be supplemented with short lectures and other materials. Each student will receive a certificate of completion.

Nine CUHK students will be selected and supported to join this rewarding learning activity.

 

Objectives The programme aims to strengthen students’ understanding of global climate change, adaptation and mitigation strategies. It also allows them to practise their global teamwork and cross-cultural collaboration and communications skills.
Schedule The total course time of 15 hours includes:

  • 6.5 hours of online live sessions
  • 3.5 hours of self-paced online homework
  • 5 hours of group homework

Key dates:

  • Opening ceremony: 9:00-10:30 am on 12 August
  • Day 1: 9:00-11:30 am on 26 August
  • Day 2: 9:00-11:30 am on 2 September
Eligibility Open to all full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students from all disciplines.
Programme Fee Selected students will receive full sponsorship for participation in the programme.

 

Students will be required to pay a registration fee of US$200, which will be reimbursed upon successful completion of the progrmame.

Application Interested students should complete an online application form by 27 May (Thur). Nine CUHK students will be selected to participate in the programme. Students will be notified of the result by 11 June (Fri).
