Message from the Director

On behalf of the Department of Finance, I would like to welcome you to the Insurance, Financial and Actuarial Analysis Programme website. Here you can get a glimpse of the teaching and students’ activities of our programme. We have 4 full-time academically and professionally qualified teaching staffs, and we have already produced 621 graduates as of 2018, most of which working in insurance companies as actuaries, analysts in banks and consultants in consulting and accounting firms.

Actuarial science is a multi-disciplinary subject that involves general business, finance, mathematics and statistics. It is most suitable for students who wish to apply their knowledge in mathematics into business, particularly in the risk management of products related to mortality, casualty and investment risk. It is constantly evolving due to the development of new investment and insurance products of the rapidly-changing business world as well as the advancement in risk management. It contributes greatly to the stability of the financial security system in our society.

Our goal is to prepare students for careers as actuaries. Our courses are tailor-made to help students master the material included in professional examinations administered by the Society of Actuaries in the United States and the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom. We are one of the programmes recognized by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence.

We do not train our students to be math freaks. Instead, we would like to nurture young generations to be open-minded and creative business professionals. Most of our students participate in activities organized by our school of business and engage in half-year or full-year exchange apart from studying and working as interns, making their student life fulfilling and international.

If you are a current student of our programme, I am happy that you are with us. If you are a prospective student, I invite you to surf this website to explore the opportunities that we may offer you.
