Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences, has recently been appointed as a member of the Shaw Prize Council for a period of two years as from 01 May 2013. Established in November 2002, the Shaw Prize is an international award to honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions in academic and scientific research or applications. It consists of three annual awards: the Prize in Astronomy, the Prize in Life Science and Medicine, and the Prize in Mathematical Sciences.

The appointment recognizes Prof. Chan's continued contributions to the scientific community. His wide-ranging expertise will help the Shaw Prize gain in stature in future.
