Following the 1st Joint Symposium which was held in March 2013 at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the 2nd (2014) Joint Symposium on "Biomedical Research across the Continents – Insight and Innovation" was successfully held on 10 and 11 April 2014 at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
The symposium was co-organized by Faculty of Medicine of Tsinghua University, School of Science of HKUST, Schools of the Health Sciences of University of Pittsburgh, Faculty of Medicine of University of Hong Kong and Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences, led a 6-member delegation to represent CUHK in participating in the event. Meanwhile, two members of our School, Prof. Cho Chi-hin, Associate Director (Research) and Prof. Jiang Xiaohua, were invited to serve as speakers during the symposium.
The two-day symposium focused on advances in areas of caner, immunology, neuroscience, drug discovery, structural biology, and stem cell and development biology. Outstanding scientists and researchers from the five participating institutions were brought together and shared their experiences and latest research findings with the participants. The next joint symposium will be held in U.S.A. (hosted by University of Pittsburgh) in 2015.
