I have participated in an one-year exchange program to the University of Aberdeen. It has been a very great opportunity for me to embrace myself to a new environment, meeting new friends, adapting to new learning methods and also the very special culture of the granite city in Scotland. I have taken courses which I did not have the chance to take in CUHK, such as politics and philosophy. These are some subjects that have broadened my horizon in terms of different ways of thinking and the application of logic in other fields besides of mathematics and science. With a very healthy learning and teaching environment with a lot of interaction between teachers and students, I have got along with my classmates very well, and I find them very passionate and enthusiastic while learning.
In the winter holiday, I have also got the chance to visit some countries in the Eastern Europe, to take a very good rest while experiencing a very rich Christmas culture in Europe. I have visited places with very traditional cultures, such as Budapest, Vienna and Copenhagen. There are lots of historical buildings, and I have met new friends who were travelling around the world. The world is so small, as I have met a lot of friends from Asia, who shared a lot of travelling experiences with me; while it is also so big, as I have been to lots of places that I could not imagine I could go before the exchange program, and there are so many stories that I could listen to and learn from travelling all the way from the east to the west.
Despite of the chilly weather throughout the weather, and also the pandemic conditions in 2020, the exchange program is definitely a fruitful one, and I think it’s irreplaceable throughout my university life. I will definitely miss the experience living in Aberdeen, and also the friends from all over the world.
