- Personal development (sports, art, music, etc.)

- Based on academic excellence, caliber and commitment in the field of education.
- For full-time doctoral students in Chinese Literature, History, Geography or a related subject.
- Students may reasonably be expected to complete their theses by the end of the academic year 2020/21.
- Students are required to provide a statement on the details of research which should be related to Chinese culture in general, and on the progress of the thesis detailing a research plan that will lead to completion of the thesis by the end of the academic year 2020/21.
- Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in academic activities of the Institute of Chinese Studies such as talks and seminars, and are required to submit a copy of the thesis after its completion to the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid for onward transmission to the donor for record.
- For full-time postgraduate students in the Master's or Doctoral Programmes.
- Students must be permanent residents of Hong Kong taking UGC-funded programmes.
- Based on academic merit and good conduct.
- For a full-time postgraduate student of the Faculty of Education.

- Consideration will also be given to personality and leadership potential.
- For full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students studying in UGC-funded programmes.
- Year 1 undergraduate students must have good academic results during secondary education and in public examination; whereas Year 2 or above students must have attained a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above up to the summer session of previous academic year. Year 1 postgraduate students must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance.
- Students should be able to demonstrate achievements in any of the following areas in recent three years (i.e. 1 January 2017 or after). If any student has outstanding achievements on several areas, he/she should be recommended for the Scholarship based only on the most deserving area as required by the Education Bureau (EDB).
- sports and games
- music and performing arts
- culture, arts and design
- innovation, science and technology
- Students should have received awards in national or regional competitions / performances; or represented institution or relevant association in such competitions / performances and have good recommendation / assessment by the institution or relevant organization on the capability or talent; OR have received awards (except commendable award in recognition of participation) in local / inter-school / inter-institution competitions.
- Students who ONLY participate in any of the following activities should NOT be awarded Talent Development Scholarship (TDS):
- being a team member / committee member of school/university team / club / society
- intra-school / intra-institution activities (CUHK intercollegiate activities are also not eligible.)
- work-related activities (e.g. internship / helpers or workers of an event, etc.)
- examinations on musical instruments
- language proficiency test (e.g. IELTS, TOEFL, etc.)
- For a full-time student in the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programme.
- Based on academic merit and financial need.
- a local student; and
- aged between 18 and 40; and
- studying for a full-time bachelor's (year 2 and above) or master's degree at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020/21

- Based on a Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 up to the end of the preceding academic year.
- Preference will be given to students who have a proven record of active participation in extra-curricular activities and have contributed to the university community, and with demonstrable financial need.
- Students should not receive other scholarships of which the total amount is more than half of the annual tuition fee in the year of award (currently at HK$72,500).
- Students will not be considered for the Scholarships if they have been awarded the same Scholarship before.
- Students must be permanent residents of Hong Kong;
- Students must have resided in Hong Kong continuously for at least three complete years immediately prior to the commencement of their undergraduate programme;
- Students must have received their senior secondary education in Hong Kong, including those who have studied local (e.g. Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education) and non-local (e.g. International Baccalaureate) curricula;
- Students must be local full-time Year 1 undergraduate students in 2020/21, pursuing their first undergraduate degree immediately succeeding completion of their senior secondary school education;
- Students must demonstrate excellent academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or equivalent in Term 1 of 2020/21; and
- Students must demonstrate a track record of community service or charitable work undertaken prior to their scholarship application.
- be full-time Year 2 or above undergraduate students of any disciplines. The awardees must be a full-time undergraduate student during the tenure of the award (i.e. for the whole academic year of award). Students who will graduate after Term 1 studies are NOT eligible.
- have works with outstanding creativity in the fields of Humanities or Natural Science
- be able to demonstrate that the creativity of his/her works is purposeful and that it is completely original
- be able to demonstrate that the creativity of his/her works is innovative and has outstanding achievement
- submit a personal statement in English of not more than 500 words which elaborates the achievement and creativity
- Full-time local and non-local undergraduate students studying Year 1; and
- Total score of 30 or above based on the best 5 subjects in HKDSE. (A total score of 30 is equivalent to an average of 5* in all the best 5 subjects.) ;or Other outstanding academic achievements for admission to CUHK.
- a local student; and
- aged between 18 and 40; and
- studying for a full-time bachelor's (year 2 and above) or master's degree at The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2020/21

- Other comparable qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

- Award: HK$112,300 per annum for the entire normal length of study
- For local full-time first-year or second-year students who are studying their first undergraduate degree in 2020/21
- Students must be permanent Hong Kong residents;
- For first-year applicants, they must demonstrate academic excellence in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) or another recognised entry qualification. If selected, the scholarship will be offered on the condition that the student is ranked among top 10% in class or has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first term. For second-year applicants, they must be ranked among top 10% in class or have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the time of application.
- Applicants with outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities but with a lower class rank (among top 15%) or a lower GPA of 3.30 or above may also be considered. Evidence of these qualities, which are subject to examination by the JC Scholarship Secretariat, may include but not limited to awards, prizes, or other forms of recognition / credentials for demonstrating leadership in projects that benefit the community or other outstanding achievements. Recommendation letter is required for these applicants.
- Students must be proficient in written and spoken Chinese (Cantonese or Putonghua) and English.
- Award: HK$215,200 per annum for the entire normal length of study
- For full-time first-year or second-year Mainland students who are studying their first undergraduate degree programme in 2020/21
- Students must be citizens of the People’s Republic of China
- For first-year applicants, they must demonstrate academic excellence in Joint Entrance Examination (Gaokao) or another recognised entry qualification. If selected, the scholarship will be offered on the condition that the student is ranked among top 10% in class or has attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the end of the first term. For second-year applicants, they must be ranked among top 10% in class or have attained a cumulative GPA of 3.50 at the time of application.
- Applicants with outstanding achievements or exceptional leadership qualities but with a lower class rank (among top 15%) or a lower GPA of 3.30 or above may also be considered. Evidence of these qualities, which are subject to examination by the JC Scholarship Secretariat, may include but not limited to awards, prizes, or other forms of recognition / credentials for demonstrating leadership in projects that benefit the community or other outstanding achievements. - Candidates with a focus on strategic sectors (e.g. digital, innovation and technology, logistics, green energy) will be given an advantage.

- For full-time undergraduate students.
- Students must be Hong Kong permanent residents.
- Students must attain a minimum Cumulative GPA of 3.7 or top 3% of class in the first term of the academic year 2020/21.
- Students must be in disciplines under architecture, business and economics, communication, computer science / information systems, education, engineering, health care, hotel and tourism, law, medicine, science (applied and basic), social sciences, humanities, arts subjects (linguistics and languages, translation, history, geography, fine arts and applied arts) energy and environment and Asian and International Studies and creative media..
- Be registered CUHK students in the tenure year of the scholarship;
- Hong Kong Permanent Residents with the right of abode in Hong Kong.
- Undertaking a science-related degree funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC). In general they cover (i) Sciences; (ii) Engineering and Technology; and (iii) Medicine, Dentistry professions.
- Preferably cumulative GPA of 3.3 (or equivalent) or above.
- A minimum total TOEFL (Internet-based test) score of 90 with scores for individual sections not lower than 21 on reading, 22 on listening, 21 on speaking, and 17 on writing; or a minimum IELTS (Academic test) overall band score of 6.5, with no component below 6.0. These are irrespective of overseas universities’ requirements. All tests must have been taken on or after 5 February 2019.
- Have passion in innovation and technology, and intention of pursuing this as a career.

- For a full-time undergraduate student of the Faculty of Education.

- For full-time undergraduate students from the above designated bachelor’s programmes of the Faculty of Education.
- Based on outstanding performance in the Teaching Practice Courses offered by respective programmes.
- Students should be nominated by their respective programmes.
- For local or non-local full-time undergraduate students.
- For Year 1 students, they must have outstanding academic achievements at entrance; or for Year 2 or above students, they must have attained a Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above up to the previous academic year.
- Students should have financial need, e.g. receiving Government grant and/or loan, University bursaries and/or loan in the current and/or previous academic year.
- Priority will be given to those students with qualities for / interest in Chinese culture and arts, e.g. Chinese opera, Chinese music and Chinese dance, etc.
- Candidates should:
- have the right of abode or the right to land in Hong Kong or are permitted to stay in Hong Kong without restriction;
- have resided in Hong Kong for at least three years as at 1 September 2020;
- be registered full-time undergraduate students undertaking UGC-funded courses in 2020/21; and
- not be engaged in full-time employment.

The Scholarships Sub-Committee, under the Student Affairs Committee of the Faculty of Education, is responsible for the selection process, while the nominations are to be confirmed by the Senate Committee on University Scholarships. The recommendations for most of the scholarships are generally made at the start of the academic year. Please contact relevant programme offices for inquiries.
