Master of Chinese Medicine (Full-time)

Offered by the School of Chinese Medicine, Master of Chinese Medicine is targeted on applicants who have completed a non-Chinese Medicine majored Bachelor's Degree and are interested in pursuing advanced study in theories and clinical practice in Chinese Medicine. This is the unique Master programme in Hong Kong which enables graduates to sit for the Chinese Medicine Practitioner Licensing Examination organized by the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong upon completion of the Programme.
Initiated by the School of Chinese Medicine since September 2000, the Master of Chinese Medicine Programme aims to provide advanced training in Chinese Medicine for University graduates.
Coursework Requirements
The Master of Chinese Medicine is a four-year full-time programme, which consists of the Pre-clinical Programme (3 years) and the Clinical Programme (1 years). Coursework requirements are as follows.

Students are required to complete courses on Chinese medical concepts, specialties in Chinese medicine and basic medical and life sciences in the Pre-clinical Programme (3 years). Students will then receive advanced clinical training by attaching to a Chinese medicine hospital in the Mainland and/ or a specialty clinic in Hong Kong (1 year).

Admission Requirements

Applicants should meet the general requirements of the Graduate School.

In addition to the above-mentioned requirements of the Graduate School, applicants should preferably:

have majored in Biomedical Sciences or a related field; or
-
have completed Chinese medicine courses in a recognized educational institution.

Applicants should also fulfill the English Language Proficiency Requirement of the Graduate School.

A written test and interview may be required by the School of Chinese Medicine.

One photocopy of your HKID card or other identity document as given in the Application Form.

Official transcripts (with a complete record of courses attended and examination results) of all tertiary level studies. Photocopies will not be accepted*. Applicants should first download the “Transcript Submission Covering Sheet” and send it to their universities to apply for transcripts.Transcripts should be returned directly to relevant Divisions in officially sealed envelope.*CUHK qualifications (Bachelor’s or higher degrees): Photocopies of transcripts issued by CUHK are accepted.

Applicants who obtained degrees from universities in Mainland China are required to provide an Online Verification Report of Higher Education Qualification Certificate (教育部學歷證書電子註冊備案表) issued by the CHESICC (學信網).

Copies of certificates of academic/professional qualifications.

Copies of other qualifications, e.g. certificate and transcript of courses on Chinese Medicine.

One document of any one of the following score reports/certificates, showing that you have fulfilled the English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission to the Graduate School:

Photocopy of a pass in English of HKALE, HKHLE, or CUHK Matriculation Exam.; or

Photocopy of an achieve Level 4 or above in the English Language subject of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination; or
-
Photocopy of a degree from a university in Hong Kong or taken a degree programme of which the medium of instruction was English; or
-
Original of a valid official score report (The official score report must be sent to the University directly from the test organization) of TOEFL, or IELTS (Academic), or GMAT (verbal):
- TOEFL (Paper-based: 550; Internet-based: 79);
- GMAT (verbal) (Band 21);
- IELTS (Academic) (Band 6.5); or
(*TOEFL and IELTS are considered valid for two years from the test date. GMAT is considered valid for five years from the test date.)

Photocopy of a recognized professional qualification awarded in Hong Kong or an English speaking country

Confidential recommendations from 2 referees (not from the applicant) in sealed envelope or via online system.

A personal statement in Chinese (About 1,000 - 2,000 words). The personal statement may describe the level of knowledge and main field or interest in Chinese Medicine and expectation for this programme. You may submit an essay to our office by post or sent us the soft copy. The soft copy should be saved in PDF and sent to the Division by email mcm_adm@cuhk.edu.hk (Please quote your Name and Application No. on the essay).
