FAQ - STARS
Q1: | What is the Stream called STARS? |
A1: | STARS stands for the Science, Technology And Research Stream. It is tailored for students with strong abilities and interests to acquire wider exposure and research experience during their undergraduate studies. |
Q2: | What are STARS requirements? |
A2: | In addition to major requirements, STARS students must also complete 3 additional units of faculty package courses from the two remaining groups in the faculty package of the major programme, 6 units of research courses and 3 units of seminar courses. Furthermore, students must spend at least four consecutive weeks on an overseas experiential learning activity (e.g. exchange, research or workshop). Please refer to the following document for more details. http://www.sci.cuhk.edu.hk/images/content/academic/undergraduate/STARS_Req.pdf |
Q3: | Who can join STARS? |
A3: | Physics majors who have achieved the following admission scores at the beginning of Year 1 are eligible to join STARS:
|
Q4: | I am a physics major. If I join STARS, will it affect my choice of Streams in my major study? |
A4: | Physics majors, except those in ESTP, may do up to two Streams including STARS. If they join STARS, they have the option to do one Stream in the physics curriculum. Students in ESTP have a default (ESTP) Stream. They can only do one more Stream if they wish to do so. This could be one of the Streams in the physics curriculum or STARS as designed by the Science Faculty. ESTP should note that they may need to complete extra units beyond the minimum graduation requirement if they so wish to opt for an addition Stream. |
Q5: | What to do if I am qualified and I want to join STARS? |
A5: | Please contact Dr. Alvin Leung (htalueng@cuhk.ed.hk) for more information. |
