Message from the Department Chairman
When you read this message, you are probably considering "Science (JS 4601)" (Broad-based Admission Scheme under the Faculty of Science) or "Enrichment Stream in Theoretical Physics (JS 4690)" in your JUPAS application this year. If so, CUHK is the place for you. In this website, you will find out the strength of our Department and the quality of education that we provide to our undergraduates. Our rigorous curriculum, coupled with various student-centered learning opportunities and experiential learning opportunities that we have developed in recent years and the flexible credit system of CUHK, provides a rigorous and thorough training to our undergraduates at a level comparable to any major research universities in the world. For those of you who plan to do research work in the future, our graduates have been admitted to PhD programmes in top graduate schools around the world. I am sure you will be impressed by what we can offer.
The compulsory courses in our curriculum provide a solid foundation on the key subjects and essential skills for learning physics. To help students better prepare for future career and study plans, the physics curriculum offers optional Streams to guide students on spending their elective units. We offer Streams on Astrophysics and Fundamental Physics, Computational and Data Physics, and Quantum Science and Technology. Further information can be found in the link to Streams of Study.
Another new element is the Physics-X Streamlined Path that provides a way for students to pursue a double major in Physics and a second discipline in either Mathematics or Earth System Science within the nominal period of study while maintaining academic rigor. Further information can be found in the link to Double Majors.
STARS stands for the Science, Technology And Research Stream – a Stream that qualified student in a science degree programme at CUHK, including physics, could opt to join. Further information can be found in the link to STARS.
You are most welcome to contact us directly for further information on our curriculum, the learning opportunities that we provide at CUHK Physics Department, university life at CUHK, etc. Please feel free to send your enquiries to our JUPAS hotline at ugadm@phy.cuhk.edu.hk, or contact any one of the following teaching staff of the Physics Department:
