    Prof. Yingying Wei and her former PhD student Dr. Xiangyu Luo (currently an Assistant Professor in Renmin University of China) have been awarded the W. J. Youden Award in Interlaboratory Testing in JSM 2019 for their publication "Batch Effects Correction with Unknown Subtypes, Journal of the American Statistical Association, 114 (526) 581-594."

  • Professor Chan Kin Wai received Early Career Award 2019/20 from Research Grants Council. Among the 166 approved projects of the Early Career Scheme, seven projects were rated "outstanding" and also had their education plans rated "satisfactory". The Principal Investigators of these seven outstanding projects would receive "The Early Career Award 2019/20" and also additional funding for engaging in educational activities.

  • Professor Wong Hoi Ying has been appointed as Outstanding Fellow of the Faculty of Science on a concurrent basis with effect from 1 August 2019. The University will provide $50,000/year to Professor Wong for 5 years to support his research activities. 

  • Dr. John Alexander Wright has been awarded  the Faculty Exemplary Teaching Award 2018.

  • Professor Wong Hoi Ying has been awarded “The IMA Journal of Management Mathematics Best Paper of 2018” for the paper entitled “Optimal Investment for Insurers with Correlation Risk: Risk Aversion and Investment Horizon”. It is the annual prize for the best paper published in the IMA Journal of Management Mathematics. The award was presented in the summer of 2019.

  • 2018 International Quant Championship 

    The team of Science and Engineering graduates has won the National Winner in the ‘International Quant Championship 2018’ held in Beijing in July 2018. The team would compete in the Global Final to be held in Singapore.

The awardees’ achievements in teaching are considered by their peers and students to be of the highest order.  This award was presented at the 83rd Congregation scheduled for 16 November 2017. 

  • Professor WONG Hoi Ying has been awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Exemplary Teaching Award and the Faculty Exemplary Teaching Award 2015. The VC’s Exemplary Teaching Award is a prestigious award that is presented annually to outstanding teachers of the University, one from each of the eight Faculties and the General Education programme. The awardees’ achievements in teaching are considered by their peers and students to be of the highest order.  This award was presented at the 81st Congregation scheduled for 17 November 2016. 

  • Congratulations to our Year-3 QFRM student XI Yiru on awarding the first prize at the 2015 Contemporary Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM). Yiru joined the competition with another two CUHK students from Math major and CS major. The CUMCM is an annual national competition, and is one of the largest mathematical competitions in modeling.

  • Professor Shao Qiman has been appointed as Choh-Ming Li Professor of Statistics in recognition of his distinguished scholastic performance. The University will provide $100,000/year to Professor Shao for 5 years to support his academic and research activities. 

     
     
      

     

  • Mr. Pun Chi-seng, our Year 3 Statistics PhD student, recently won the 2015 Best Student Research Paper Award for a paper he presented at the 2015 Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, the USA. This is the first time ever a PhD student from the Asia Pacific region has won this international competition.
