Following the 2010 Academic Symposium on Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases, Prof. Yan Shen (沈岩院士), Vice President of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and Academician, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Xue Zhang (張學教授), Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) and 10 other scholars from the mainland paid a follow-up visit to the School of Biomedical Sciences on 21 October 2010 to have a round-table meeting with our School members. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, CUHK. During the meeting, our School members discussed actively with the mainland guests on the possible areas for research collaboration and academic exchange. The meeting was rounded up by a farewell lunch hosted by Prof. Jack Cheng.
The follow-up visit not only enhanced the mutual understanding between investigators of our School and scientific leaders from renowned research institutes and universities in the mainland (e.g. Jiao Tong University, Shanghai; Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences; Key Laboratory of Stem Cell Biology, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, etc.) but also sowed the seeds for future research partnership. A few of our SBS members, including Prof. Wai-Yee Chan, Prof. Woody Chan, Prof. Hsiao-Chang Chan, Prof. Christopher Cheng, and Prof. Yin Xia have already developed some initial plans for joint collaboration with their mainland counterparts.
