CLC
has a team of 70 some professional staff, structured to provide both
stability and flexibility to handle changing needs in the contemporary
world. As head of a teaching unit of the Faculty of Arts, CLC Director
reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, who is also the Chairperson
of CLC’s Steering Committee which comprises key players in language
education and representatives from relevant administrative units of
the University. Advice and guidance related to language education for
University students are also provided to the Director by the Senate
Committee on Language Enhancement (SCLE) of the University. The Centre
is divided into University Programme Section (UPS) and Continuing Education
Section (CES). While the Director is responsible for the overall operation
of the centre, the 7 division heads, namely

University Programme Section
(UPS/CPD), CES Putonghua Programme Division (PPD), CES Cantonese Programme Division (CPD), Academic
Affairs Division (AAD), Senior Operations Manager and UPS Executive
Officer, report to the Director and are responsible for the operation
associated with the division as part of the centre. The CLC Management
Committee (CLCMC), which consists of the Director and the 7 Heads, is
responsible for making major administrative and academic decisions.

Staff's Contribution
in the Communities
CLC have been playing a key role in language
education and has a close relationship with various
institutions related to Chinese language education in
the community. A sample list of CLC’s
professional services to the community is provided below.

CLC Director serves as trainer and invited speaker for various professional
seminars organized by the Education and Manpower
Bureau, HKSAR Government, by other universities
in Hong Kong and by Universities in mainland
China.

|
CLC Director and other teachers serve as chief examiner, examiners.
moderators, subject committee member in various
public tests of the Hong Kong Examination and
Assessment Authority.
|
|
|
CLC teachers serve as experts in many professional activities related
to Putonghua and Cantonese,
such as the production of CD learning materials
for children and the “Putonghua Project A” Program by Radio Hong Kong.
|
|
|
Many CLC teachers serve as adjudicators in various language activities
and competitions, such as the “Putonghua
Elite Contest” by Radio Hong Kong, Putonghua
and Cantonese Speech Contests by CUHK, the Shanghai-Hong
Kong inter-city and inter-school Internet debate
competition, and the Inter-primary schools Putonghua anchor contest by Hong Kong Professional Teacher
Union.
