Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award 2000 |
|
|
|
The Vice-Chancellor's Exemplary Teaching Award Scheme was launched in the year 1999 to give recognition to outstanding teachers. Every year, each Faculty can nominate at least one teacher for the award whose performance in teaching is considered excellent in the eyes of students and other teaching staff. The award serves not only as a recognition of the contributions of the awardees in the area of teaching, but also reflects the University's commitment to providing quality education. |

Quality teaching consists of three elements: transfer of knowledge; inspiring
students' learning interests;

Teaching is a way of life. I believe that with genuineness, empathy and respect, students and I can grow perpetually. I treasure this growing journey.

In my view, the most important element for effective teaching is the teacher's attitude. Enthusiasm is often the key.

Teaching students can be a challenge or a nuisance, depending on the attitude taken towards medical education. While there are workshops to improve our teaching skills, it is our enthusiasm rather than our skills, which make a life-long influence on our future doctors.

Teaching and learning are just two aspects of the same endeavour, in which the teacher and students, working together as partners, strive for intellectual and personal growth.

I love teaching because it allows me to help young men and women to learn, grow and mature through the awesome experience of exploring new frontiers of knowledge, discovering their own weaknesses, strengths and potentials, and fathoming the mysteries of love and life. There are times of disappointment and frustration, yet they are certainly ecstatic and satisfying. |
