2013 Study Trip to Shanghai, China

Amidst the hassle of H7N9, our GLOBE students embarked on a study trip to Shanghai during 25-30 May 2013, where they visited a wide array of companies and institutions.

The site visit to the production facilities of the Baosteel Group was an eye-opener, where students witnessed the making of steel and felt the ultra-boiling temperature of the premises. At the training facilities of China Eastern Airline, our students participated in an evacuation exercise with the cabin crew and tasted what first class was like. As our GLOBE students went on a guided tour at the K11 Mall developed by the New World Development Company Limited in Shanghai, they marvelled at the art pieces that could be found at every corner, and how well these works of contemporary art blended with the mall. At ASC Fine Wines, in addition to a personal sharing from a successful American doing business in China, a wine tasting session was also arranged for our GLOBE students.

This was the first time that an education institution was included in the GLOBE study trip, and this has proven to be rewarding. The group attended a lecture on China’s economy given by a professor at the Shanghai Jiaotong University. Our multi-ethnic group also talked to the local students, allowing these teenagers to mingle together and learn from their peers.

The study trip ended in high spirits with small groups presenting what they have learnt from the visits in a creative manner. Marking also the end of the semester, our GLOBE students bid each other farewell in Shanghai, and got ready for the summer!
