2012 Study Trip to London, United Kingdom

Our GLOBE Batch 7 students had a short yet fruitful study trip to London during 14-16 November 2012. London needs no further introduction: it is one of the leading international financial centres, and a place with great history and cultural heritage.

Our students had an exclusive meeting with the Head of Wealth Management at Morgan Stanley. The meeting was highly professional and rewarding, where students learnt about the well-revered bank, as well as market trends and investment ideas. Seated around a big oval table at the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development, our students gathered another perspective. The EBRD plays a pivotal role in the European Union, helping with the construction of market economies and democracies through investments. The visit to the Royal Opera House was a delight, offering something other than banking. After a guided tour, the group met the Director of Opera – who was the former Artistic Director of the Royal Danish Opera. It was an inspiring session about how to juggle artistic pursuits with commercial interests – and more practically, how to work with businessmen and talents in the opera industry.

Despite a short stay, the view of the River Thames, the Big Ben, and the unmistakable red telephone box and double-decked bus still remains vivid. As the last study trip in Europe, our GLOBE students commemorated it with a dinner at Joe’s Pizza in Soho, enjoying the night before the end-of-semester exams.
