GBS Student Receives Scholarship for Her Passion to Shape Hong Kong’s Education

23 May 2017

Global Business Studies (GBS) year 1 student Melody Tam Lok-man was awarded Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) Scholarship on 23 May, 2017 in recognition of her academic prowess and community contribution.

A top scorer with seven subjects of 5** in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination, Tam chose Bachelor of Business Administration (Law) and Bachelor of Laws [BBA(Law)&LLB] program of the University of Hong Kong at first. However, she quickly identified where her true passion lies after commencing her study, and decided to transfer to the GBS program of the Chinese University of Hong Kong Business School after one year.

Realising the early stages of life are filled with explorations but not study alone, Tam created a YouTube channel for sharing her study tips and experiences with students in need. The positive feedback received encourages her to leverage on the network of the Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association to further develop her channel, and she wishes to set up an education-related enterprise in the future.

This year, the HKJC Scholarship supports 45 students studying in Hong Kong’s eight UGC-funded institutions and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to pursue a full undergraduate degree programme at their respective institution. Each scholar would receive an average value of HK$460,000 to be paid over the course of the degree programme.
