Mentors and Mentees Got Connected at the Kick Off Gathering

21 January 2017

Over 60 alumni and current students attended GBS IBCE Mentorship Kick off gathering held on 21 January 2017.

The gathering kick started the one-year mentorship program which aims at providing an engaging platform where year 1 and 2 students of Global Business Studies (GBS) and International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) will be able to obtain advice for personal and career development. Different from past years, this year’s mentorship program is refined by pairing junior students with alumni who are executives and professionals in different industries and also their senior students. On one hand, this can help junior students to connect to the real business world. On the other hand, they will be able to seek academic advice from their seniors.

“GLOBE and IBCE place immense emphasis on building a close-knit community. Every member of this community is not only highly accomplished, but also extremely friendly and always ready to help,” said Radhika NARANG, a year two GBS student. “(My mentor) Peggy, who is also passionate about social entrepreneurship gave me an insight into her journey and advice on how to achieve my career goals early on. (Student mentor) Nicholas, on the other hand, motivated me further to make the most of university life.”

The matching between students and alumni is mainly based on alumni’s career background and students’ career interests.

During the Kick off gathering, GBS IBCE external advisory board was also officially launched. Comprised of five alumni from each program, the board is to provide advice and support on the curriculum design, student enhancement initiatives, career development and so on.
