With a showcase of well-coordinated team work and a captivating presentation, the CUHK team, which consists of Milton Lam, Joyce Mok and Michelle Wong, who are Year 2 students from Global Business Studies, and David Yeung (Quantitative Finance and Risk Management Science, Year 2) was awarded the 2nd runner-up at HKICPA Qualification Programme (QP) Case Competition 2015 on November 28, 2015. The winning team took home trophies, cash prizes, and QP fee waivers. They were also given internship opportunities at several leading accounting firms.
The CUHK team was one of the final eight merit teams which entered the final round amongst the 30 short-listed teams in the 2nd round of the competition. The theme of the HKICPA QP Case Competition 2015 was “Food and Beverage” (F&B), which required teams to propose a strategy together with a short-term investment plan.
“It is important to be creative when constructing a strategy; instead of choosing one out of the two given strategies in the case, our team brainstormed a new business proposal, which really helped us stand out in the competition,” said Milton.
Joyce mentioned that it was also very important to be realistic in designing an investment plan, “The team put a lot of effort in researching the current and future trends of the F&B industry, which really helped in identifying potential market opportunities. And of course, understanding the economy and characteristics of any potential markets is just as important; after all, F&B businesses are all about taking care of people’s needs.”
