Global Business Forum 2014 - Developing Next-Generation Leaders

23 February 2014

The first Global Business Forum co-organized by Global Business Studies (GBS) Program and International Business and Chinese Enterprise (IBCE) Program at Regal Kowloon Hotel on 22 & 23 February 2014 was a huge success. Over 160 GBS & IBCE local and exchange students, alumni, faculty members and prospective secondary school students participated in the event.

The objectives of the forum are to allow participants to develop professional networks with industry leaders; demonstrate students’ potential and skills mastered to a variety of firms; consolidate the industry necessary skills already possessed by the students via workshops and experience sharing from experts from different fields; and provide students with the opportunity to have fun with alumni so as to reinforce the strong affiliation within the Global Business Programs family.

The two-day event kicked off with the Spring Dinner, where Professor Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, delivered an opening remark. Serving as the mixer event before the subsequent forum, the dinner was filled with joy and laughter because of the music, drama, and dance performances given by students from CUHK, Copenhagen Business School (CBS), The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) and University of South Carolina (USC) throughout the night. Everyone was having great fun and the spirit was high.

The true climax was the forum under the theme of “Developing Next-Generation Leaders” held on the second day. A list of seasoned industry leaders coming from diverse background shared their valuable experiences and their sharing topics are as follows:

  1. Mr Sherman Chin, Partner of Odgers Berndtson Hong Kong
    - Some Thoughts about the World of Work

  2. Ms Mariko Sanchanta, Asia-Pacific Regional Managing Director of Burson-Marsteller
    - Branding and Executive Image

Having the opportunities to interact with seasoned leaders coming from such diverse backgrounds, not only did students develop profound interests in various industries, they also picked up the industry-winning capabilities, like personal branding skills, time management skills and correct working attitude, just to name a few. These qualities are of utmost importance in order for them to become successful leaders in the future.
