Grand Slam in Academic Cup 2013

28 September 2013

The Academic Cup (ACup) has always been a hallmark event at CUHK Business School, in which all students are very excited to showcase their strategic thinking and other proud talents nurtured from the School. One of the highlights that make the competition intense as ever is the 48-hour case solving. This year, all 72 teams were given a case study on Tencent’s internationalization strategy, only 48 hours before the presentation on Saturday, 28 September.

The winning team for 2013 is Peamerica, formed by Eric Fong, James Lam, Veronica Lau and Peggy Tse (all GBS, Year 4). On top of the Championship, Peggy also won the Best Presenter Award. Below is the sharing from Peggy:

Peamerica rejoined the ACup arena since we last competed in 2010 as freshmen. Our case-solving approach became slightly different and more mature than before, as we crystallized key lessons learnt throughout university. Research and strategizing are considered the most important within such short period of time. For the first all-nighter, the team sat down together and rigorously debated on the issue. Not a single presentation slide was done that night, but a strong framework and logic to answer Tencent’s question of going global was built. We considered this as the critical factor to stand out from our competitors.

On the big day of presentation, it is not only exciting for us because we can finally present our idea on big screens, but also because we can learn from the judging panel consisted of sophisticated alumni with a diversity of industry experiences. Feedback from the first round of judges has helped Peamerica substantially to perfect our presentation materials while progressing to the final stage. Peamerica, along with the other two winning GBS teams, is very happy to receive positive recognition for our hard work and a grand slam in ACup.
