12 September 2013
As we mark the 10th and 5th anniversaries of GBS and IBCE programs respectively, both programs have acquired new talents from all over the world and gave this big family an exciting prospect. Taking heed to experiences from current leaders and building a tight network within the new generation are believed to be of foremost importance to allow these global elites to flourish and become future leaders. Therefore, on 12th September, 2013, GLOBErs and IBCErs joint hands and invited Mr. Jouni Hakanen, Managing Director of Accenture, a leading Technology and Consulting company in Greater China, to inspire them on how to become an outstanding leader as the kick off of the academic year.
To start off the evening, IBCErs energised the room with a warming song about themselves. The well-written lyrics depict the tight bonds between IBCErs. After the brisk performance, two seniors, Victor Hui (GBS/4) and Elly Wong (IBCE/4), shared their experiences in GBS, IBCE and internship opportunities and gave the new members of GBS and IBCE a glimpse of the upcoming challenges and opportunities.
The highlight of the event is the long waited speech by Mr. Hakanen. From Nokia to Accenture, Mr. Hakanen has a very intriguing career and lifetime story. He has met and worked with people at different levels and believes leadership is a combination of various criteria. He brought the audience into deep thoughts by outlining a detailed analysis on what it takes to become a phenomenal leader.
After Mr. Hakanen’s sharing, GLOBErs brought the atmosphere to another high point with their performance. They showed energy and courage in their dance to unveil the other side of these future leaders. The gathering was drawing to an end with Mr. John Lai, Program Director of GBS and IBCE, addressing all the GLOBErs and IBCErs to reiterate the importance of building a strong connection within the two programs and thanking Mr. Hakanen again for joining and enlightening the GLOBErs and IBCErs in the gathering.
