Research Fields and Current Research Interests:
Interested in understanding the variability of the tropical atmospheric circulation and the Asian monsoon, their predictability on the seasonal to inter-annual timescales, and their future behavior under climate change. Specialized in using atmosphere-ocean coupled GCM for studying seasonal climate predictability, regional climate predictions, and projecting future climate change. Also interested in the impacts of global warming on extreme events (including intense precipitation, tropical cyclones and storm surges), and the possible roles of urbanization on those occurring in the Pearl River Delta megacity area, using high-resolution numerical models and by incorporating background warming and urban physics in the simulated environment.
