Title of Thesis:

Development of GH and IGF-I Gene Therapy for Spinal Cord Injury

Outline of the Thesis:

Backgound:

Previous studies  have implicated the potential benefits of the somatotropic hormones such as growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) to improve neurologic functions after spinal cord injury. In order to apply such bench-side discovery to clinical practice, we propose a systematic study to evaluate the efficacy of such therapy.

Study Content:

  1. Design a series of plasmid DNA constructs harboring pGH and pIGF-I.

  2. The development of Spinal cord injury model.

  3. Application of the above DNA constructs on the spinal cord injury model, followed by evaluation of the efficacy of the gene therapy.
