Chinese Characters, a most ancient and artistic writing system among all languages in the world, have been widely used by more than 1 billion native speakers. It is indispensable to the civilization of China and has great impact on the language systems in the Asia-Pacific regions like Japan and Korea. Knowledge of Chinese characters will help one in communicating to Chinese people, in understanding the Chinese culture and will give you an extra tool while living and doing business in Chinese speaking regions. Studies carried out in China have shown that functional literacy requires knowledge of between 3000 to 4000 characters.
