Admission Schemes and Requirements

 

The Chinese Studies programme admits students through the following schemes with respective entry requirements via the Office of Admission and Financial Aid (OAFA).

• International Students (also for non-Gaokao and have-not-taken-Gaokao Mainland Chinese Students)
• Local JUPAS Students (JUPAS code: JS4136)
• Local Non-JUPAS Students

Remarks:

1. Gaokao students or those who have taken the Gaokao before are not eligible for this programme.

2. Non-local (International) students refer to those who are holding/ will require a –

1. student visa/ entry permit;
2. visa under the Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates; or
3. dependent visa, who are aged 18 years old or above before 1 September of the year in which they are admitted to relevant post-secondary programmes in Hong Kong issued by the Director of Immigration.

 

 

Application Deadlines

 

For International and non-JUPAS local students, applications normally open from mid/late October. For further details, please visit the OAFA's website. Application deadlines are divided into the following two categories for admission 2021:

 

Early Application: 18 November 2020
Regular Application: 13 January 2021
Extended Application: 31 March 2021 

Promising applicants can expect to be contacted for an interview (via Skype or phone) after receipt of their application. Early applicants who do not hear back from CUHK by 31 December should assume that their application will be considered with the Regular Application pool.

U.S. Federal Student Financial Aid Programs

U.S. students attending CUHK and enrolled in full-time undergraduate or postgraduate degree programmes as approved by the U.S. Education Department may apply for the William D. Why should I study in Hong Kong? If I am interested in Chinese Studies, wouldn’t it be better for me to study in mainland China?
Hong Kong is a unique opportunity to simultaneously be both inside and outside China: when Britain returned Hong Kong to mainland China in 1997, the mainland Chinese government instituted a policy by which Hong Kong would maintain a great deal of autonomy. Yes! The Programme is taught in English; no knowledge of Chinese is required for admission.

What is the Residential College System? How is it different from traditional hostels and dorms?
