Arriving at USC

From the Airport:

You are advised to take bus no. A41 from the airport to Shatin Central (HK$20, about 45 minutes), then take a taxi from there to the guest house (about HK$60, 15 minutes). Please tell the taxi driver to check with the guard at the university entrance if he/she does not know the location of the guest house. If your luggage is too heavy you had better to take a taxi from airport. It costs about HK$300, and takes around 50 minutes to 1 hour.

From the Mainland by Train:

Get off at the University train station. You need to contact us for arranging transportation to take you to the guest house.

Access and Services

USC is committed to serving scholars in contemporary China Studies all over the world. Overseas researchers at or above the graduate level are eligible to use the centre with no admission cost. Faculty of local tertiary institutions as well as local students enrolled in China related courses are also welcome. Study rooms and carrels are available to regular users of the centre. Assistance is provided to foreign scholars in applying for visas to Hong Kong, arrange accommodation, and hiring research assistants. Advance booking of accommodation, study rooms, or carrels is required. All services are provided free of charge except expenses such as facsimile costs.

Please let us know as soon as you have a definite travel plan if you need us to assist you in arranging the accommodation. For rented accommodation, you have to check advertisements or contact real estate agents after you arrive.

Living Expenditure & Photocopy Fee

Three meals in the various cafeterias on campus cost approximately HK$50-70 per day. Foreign students who are now living on campus spend about HK$180-200 per week for miscellaneous personal expenses, including local transportation and laundry. The exchange rate is about US$1 to HK$7.7.

The photocopy fee is HK$0.40 per page.
