The Senate approved that from 2012 onwards, the credits required for General Education would be increased from 15 to 21.


December 2006

Senate Committee on General Education approved the overall programme framework.


April 2007

Task Force on GE Foundation Course was established.


June 2008

Senate Committee on General Education approved the pilot courses UGD2411 "Classics for Today: In Search of Good Life and Good Society" and UGB2412 "Science in Classics: Exploring the Universe and Life".


January 2009

The first phase of the pilot programme was introduced. Each course has one session that students could take as an elective.


September 2009

The second phase of the pilot programme was introduced. Each course has 5 sessions that students can take as an elective.


2010

The soft launch of the programme. All Secondary 6 entrants would need to take the 2 General Education foundation courses starting from the second semester of their first year.


2012

The full-fledged launch of the programme. Every student would need to take the 2 General Education foundation courses starting from the second semester of their first year.
