The “Idea of University and General Education” Academic Conference
(January 19-20, 2007)

The RCGE co-sponsored the Idea of University and General Education academic conference with Chung Chi College.  With the ever growing specialization in modern academia, although recognition of the importance of general education is gradually increasing, the importance of the idea of university is, on the contrary, weakening.  However, how general education is implemented usually reflects the school authorities’ idea of university.  Accordingly, the conference reiterated the connection between the idea of university and general education, giving it true significance for the age.  The themes of the conference included General Education in Chinese Societies, the University General Education Experience in Mainland China, Philosophy and Practice of General Education and General Education, Society and the Idea of University: China and the West.
