The second “Presentation Ceremony of CUHK Scholarship for Children of the Disciplined Services” was held on Friday, 24 February 2017. The ceremony was officiated by The Honourable Lai Tung-kwok, Secretary of Security of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr Wong Yu-hong, Philip and Dr Leung Fung-yee, Anita, donors of the Scholarship; and Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President of CUHK. Representatives from various disciplined services and respective staff associations, as well as family members of the scholarship recipients, also attended the ceremony.
In his welcoming address, Professor Fok expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Dr Wong and Dr Leung for their unfailing support towards the Chinese University over the years, and their contribution in promoting Chinese culture and the advancement of higher education. He also encouraged all recipients to pursue academic excellence, and give back to their parents, alma mater and the society after their graduation.
All CUHK students, whose parents are current or retired employees of the disciplined services, are eligible to apply for the scholarship. A selection committee has been formed to select five outstanding students to receive this award each year. Chan Huen-yan, Anson, a Year 3 medical student from United College, gave a vote of thanks on behalf of all recipients. Anson thanked Dr Wong and Dr Leung for establishing this meaningful scholarship. “I am honoured to be one of the recipients of this scholarship. This scholarship recognizes our hard work in striving for excellence, and more importantly the immense effort of our parents in contributing to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong,” said Anson.
