Epidemiologic data suggested that pregnant women may not be more susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection or its serious complications. In this case-control study, it compared COVID-19 outcomes in pregnant women with outcomes in matched non-pregnant women of reproductive age (15 – 44 years) based on data from the Mexican National Registry of Coronavirus. The result showed that after matching the medical and demographic characteristics, pregnant women with COVID-19 have a higher risk of pneumonia and death compared to non-pregnant women. Anyone interested in future collaboration in this field of research, you are welcome to contact our key investigator Prof. Liona POON of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, CUHK. Prof. Poon’s research focuses on the prediction and prevention of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality. These include developing screening models for the prediction of aneuploidies, preeclampsia, fetal growth restriction, gestational diabetes, macrosomia, stillbirth, spontaneous preterm birth and induced labour.
