Cause
The outage was caused by a maintenance work which accidently triggered off a disruption of the campus network. In order to prevent the same mishap to recur, the operating procedure has been tightened. A computerized system will be put in place from this coming August so that any high impact change can be carefully managed.
Service Affected
Campus users might experience
Unstable or loss of network / wifi / vpn connections;
No IP phone services (incoming and outgoing calls);
Fail to login and use campus-wide systems such as MyCUHK, E-mail, CUSIS, CUPIS, OnePass, Change Password, etc
Summary
Immediate remedial actions had been taken to resume the service.
ITSC is investigating the root cause, and a report with recommendation will be presented to senior management so as to prevent the same incidents from happening again.
