Using Microsoft AIP Unified Labeling Client for Email and Document Protection

In response to University’s Data Classification and Data Governance Policy, Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) is used for data protection and encryption.

As announced earlier, a new MIP system was introduced to staff members on 7 Jan 2021 . This is to replace current Azure Information Protection system (AIP classic client) in which Microsoft will end its support on 31 Mar 2021.

Supported Clients

To secure your emails or documents by MIP Protection, please install and use

  • Office documents: Office 2016 (installed with AIP unified labeling client), Office 2019 and Office 365
  • Non-office documents: AIP unified labeling client

by 31 Mar 2021. Otherwise, you cannot further create or update your AIP protected documents.

We have already communicated this solution with departmental IT support. Please contact your IT support on the arrangement in your department.
