Admission

JUPAS

  • Secondary school students taking Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary School Examination (HKDSE) should apply for admission through the Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS).
  • The Faculty of Engineering will adopt a Broad-based Admission Scheme for applicants with HKDSE or equivalent qualifications. Applicants need only to choose "Engineering" of CUHK (JUPAS Code: LS4401) in their JUPAS applications.
  • In the first year of study students will study mostly common foundation courses. After their first year of study, the students would be asked to prioritize their preference of study major in the Major Programme Allocation.

Minimum Admission Requirements (applicable to HKDSE applicants for 2017-18 onwards)

  • Admission is based on the Best 5 HKDSE subject results with subject weighting. For details of subject weighting, please refer to the table below.

  • In addition to the requirements above, bonus points will be awarded to the 6th and 7th subjects, if any.

Non-JUPAS (Local)

  • Local applicants with qualifications other than Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) should apply through the non-JUPAS admission scheme.
  • These qualifications include Associate Degree/Higher Diploma, HKALE, GCE, IB, SAT/AP and other overseas qualifications for university admission. Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. For details, please refer to the website of Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA), CUHK.

Senior Year Admission for Sub-degree Holders

  • Local holders of an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma; or final year students of an Associate Degree/Higher Diploma Programme may apply for Senior Year Admission.
  • Entrance Requirements: Applicants shall be eligible to apply for admission if they have successfully completed a course of study leading to the qualification of associate degree / higher diploma, and have attained an acceptable level of proficiency in the English and Chinese languages.
  • Applicants admitted in the senior year of the programme concerned are generally expected to complete their undergraduate studies in 2 years.

International Students

  • Non-local students who require a student visa to study in Hong Kong can apply through the International Admission scheme.
  • The applicants must possess relevant high-school or post-secondary qualifications, which include GCE, IB, SAT/AP (USA), GSAT (Taiwan), OSSD (Canada), and ATAR (Australia). Applications will be considered on a case by case basis.
