Biography
Mr. David Wu is an adjunct professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of International Business and Economics, Zhejiang University and Xiamen National Accounting Institute.
Mr. Wu is a senior banking audit partner. He joined Deloitte China in January 2019 as Vice Chairman and China Financial Services Industry Leader. Before joining Deloitte, he worked with PwC in New York, Sydney, London, Hong Kong and Beijing for nearly 30 years. From 2002 to 2003, Mr. Wu was one of the leading members of the team that designed the Bank Reform Roadmap, which provided technical guidance to China’s large state-owned banks embarking on reform in the areas of corporate governance, financial reporting and capital restructuring. From 2003 to 2006, he was the signing partner assisting Bank of China on its successful IPO in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
In 2008 and 2009, Mr. Wu was seconded to the Financial Services Authority in the UK to lead projects aimed at understanding the root cause of financial crisis, advantages and disadvantages of fair value accounting, and ways to improve international cooperation among regulators. From 2010 to 2012, Mr. Wu worked closely with China’s Ministry of Finance on the successful conversion of Big 4’s operations in China from a joint venture to a special general partnership. In 2012, he led the audit for the Postal Savings Bank of China as a signing partner and helped the bank complete its IPO in Hong Kong.
In 2018, Mr. Wu worked at the National Institute of Financial Research, Tsinghua University where he conducted research into strengthening the banking sector and the financial system in China and documented the accomplishments on accounting development and banking reform achieved in the 40 years of reform and opening-up.
Mr. Wu is the author of two books: “Walking at the Forefront of Accounting Development and Bank Reform in China (2009)”; and “The Road to Trust – realizing the value of external audit (2017)”. He also translated into Chinese three of David H Maister’s books: “True Professionalism”, “The Trusted Advisor” and “Managing the Professional Service Firm”.
Mr. Wu graduated from Zhejiang University of Industry and Commerce (1985) with a Bachelor’s degree and from the University of International Business and Economics (1988) with a Master’s degree. He is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
