CUHK FinTech Seminar Series on November 1, 2017


SEEM and InvestHK organized the CUHK FinTech Seminar Series on November 1, 2017, as part of the FinTech Education Week

As part of the Hong Kong FinTech Education Week and supported by InvestHK, the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management organized the FinTech seminar series at 4:00pm on November 1, 2017 Wednesday in YIA LT3, CUHK. The seminar series presents leading FinTech practitioners lecturing on recent advances and developments in the area.

Guest speakers include :

Mr. Charles d’Haussy, Head of FinTech, Invest Hong Kong, speaking about “Fintech Entrepreneurship in Hong Kong”

Mr. Louis Mak, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, I-Access Group and Director, Board of Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, speaking about “The Rise of P2P Financial Services”

Professor Helen Meng, Chairman, Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. speaking about “Big Data Decision Analytics @CUHK”

and Mr. Chung Chi Wai, Manager, Fintech Facilitation Office, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, speaking about “Opportunities and Challenges of the FinTech Ecosystem in Hong Kong”

Professor Helen Meng, Chairman of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, received 2017 Outstanding Women Professionals and Entrepreneurs Award (OWA) by the Hong Kong Women Professionals & Entrepreneurs Association (HKWPEA) in recognition of her professional accomplishment and service to the society. HKWPEA first organized the Outstanding Women Professor and Entrepreneurs Award in 1999 and it is a tri-annual event. The Award honors and celebrates the achievements of women in Hong Kong. It recognizes women who have made significant contributions to their professionals, Hong Kong’s business environment, and society. They are women of integrity and high moral standards, providing outstanding role models to business leaders, peer and youth alike.

The Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management at The Chinese University of Hong Kong seeks to appoint high calibre candidates to be involved in the teaching and academic support of its B.Eng. Programme in Financial Technology. The programme aims to nurture leadership and entrepreneurship among the next generation of local talent in support of Hong Kong’s endeavor to grow into an international FinTech hub. The programme has high requirements of practical experiences and hence close connections with industrial partners. The programme wishes to hire experienced professionals to serve as Professional Consultants for teaching the practical FinTech courses, such as, Financial Innovation & Structured Products, Introduction to Financial Infrastructures and Internet Finance; serve as students’ career advisors; guide students to understand and analysis current affairs and financial industry development; build connections of industry practitioners; develop industrial mentorship programme for students; line up industrial type projects, internships, arranging guest lectures, etc.

Applicants should (i) possess a graduate-level degree from a recognized university; (ii) have a minimum of six years’
post-qualification relevant professional work experience; (iii) have a good connection with the professional community and will be able to contribute towards incorporation of industry-related course contents, and relevant experiential learning opportunities for students in the related area. Applicants of higher qualifications may be considered for a courtesy title of Professor of Practice / Associate Professor of Practice in Financial Technology.

Appointment will be made on contract basis for up to three years, initially commencing August 2017, which, subject to performance and mutual agreement. The exact start date will be negotiated with the successful applicants.

Professor Helen Meng has been elected Fellow of the International Speech Communication Association in 2016, “for contributions to multilingual, multimodal human-computer interaction and language-learning technologies.” In 2007, ISCA began its Fellows Program to recognize and honor outstanding members who have made significant contributions to the science and technology of speech communication.
