Biography

Xiaoqiang Cai received his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 1988. During 1989 to 1991, he conducted postdoctoral research at The University of Cambridge and The Queen’s University of Belfast. He was Lecturer at The University of Western Australia in 1991 to 1992, before joining CUHK in 1993. He served as the Chairman of Department of SEEM during 1996 to 2003, and has been Professor since October 2000. His current research is in the areas of scheduling, logistics and supply chain management, and portfolio optimization. He has published over 100 papers in leading journals in these areas, including Operations Research, Management Science, Production and Operations Management, Decision Sciences, Naval Research Logistics, IIE Transactions, and IEEE Transactions. He has been on the editorial boards of several international journals, including IIE Transactions on Scheduling and Logistics, Journal of Scheduling, and Fuzzy Decision Making and Optimization.

He also serves as, concurrently, Dean of Science and Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
