Resume of Career
Mr Poon is the Vice Chancellor of CLP Power Academy. He set up the Academy that aims to ensuring a sufficient supply of competent engineers, technicians and tradesmen for CLP Power and the industry, and providing school leavers who do not possess any post-secondary academic qualifications a better career path in the industry by bridging that gap between vocational training and higher education that leads to professional qualifications.
Mr Poon has over 38 years’ experience in the power industry. He joined CLP Power Hong Kong in 1981. Since then, he had held various senior management positions in CLP. He was the Managing Director of CLP Power Hong Kong for about four years before assuming his current position in June 2017. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Institution of Mechanical Engineers, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, The Institution of Engineers Australia, Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences and The Hong Kong Management Association.
Mr Poon has been registered on National Engineer Register of Engineers Australia and serves as a Member of the HKQAA Governing Council. He has been appointed as a Council Member of The Hong Kong Management Association, a Director of the HKU School of Professional and Continuing Education, and a Member of the Council of the Hong Kong Baptist University. He also serves on the Advisory Committees of a number of tertiary institutes.
