Lin Huiyin 林徽因 Poetry Reading
Read by Hopkins Students and MSON students
This is a recording of 16 students from the MSON Chinese 5 course reciting “You are the April of This World” by Lin Huiyin (你是人间的四月天-林徽因 )。 The Malone Schools Online Network (MSON) provides motivated upper-level students at participating Malone Schools with a variety of academically challenging seminar courses that enhance each member school’s existing curriculums. Our Chinese 5 MSON course involves students at schools across the country - from Connecticut to Minnesota and DC who are passionate about studying the Chinese language and culture.
In this dark time, 你是人间的四月天 represents the hope we feel for reaching Spring and someday the end of the pandemic.

“Water Sleeve Dance” by Tsinghua International School
The traditional Chinese dances were characterized by the dancers’ long-sleeved costumes, which, in Chinese culture, represents the aesthetics of "flowing clouds" and implicit expressions of emotions. This form of dance became popular during the Tang Dynasty and has a significant impact on China’s modern art. Drums are also used by Chinese people throughout their 5000-year history as an important musical instrument in the celebration of holidays and sacrifice rituals. The “Water Sleeve” dance presented here is a modern innovation that combines the beauty of the long-sleeved costumes with the use of drums as a background musical instrument. This dance is always performed during festivals and other important events.
To celebrate the Spring Festival, one of the most important festivals in the Chinese culture, young dancers from the Tsinghua International School (THIS) performed a “Water Sleeve” dance to send their most sincere greetings to the Yale-China Association and the Yale community.
The students of the Tsinghua International School dance ensemble wish Yale-China a great Year of the Ox.
Tsinghua International School’s mission is to foster creative critical thinkers who are rooted in China and prepared to lead in the global community. We aim to develop the whole child, nurturing individuals of exceptional character who will make positive contributions to the world.
