The Art of Calligraphy and Painting

Professor Zhang Qifeng from Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics is a Chinese calligrapher who specializes in cursive script. Below, he demonstrates the writing of different script styles of New Year greetings, including regular script, cursive script, and semi-cursive script, to wish the Yale community a great and fortunate 2021.
Professor Zhou Bin, from Shanghai Jiaotong University, is a Chinese calligrapher and director of the Institute of International Communication of Chinese Calligraphy Culture. He demonstrates the writing of Chinese characters “Great Fortune in the Year of the Ox" and "Blessing" to wish the Yale community a great 2021.
More about Cao Xiaoxing
The inspiration for my art comes from my love of flowers and life itself, and my desire to express the joy they bring me.
Cao Xiaoxing is from Zhejiang Province in the eastern part of China. She received her Bachelor and Master’s degree in Biology and Environmental Microbiology from Xiamen University in China. She then moved to Hong Kong and worked for Hong Kong Science and Technology University as a visiting scholar.
Xiaoxing began learning Chinese calligraphy in art school when she was eight years old. As one of her favorite hobbies, she received many awards and honors for her work in China. She loves Chinese painting and calligraphy and wants more people know about this kind of art. In 2011, after moving to New Haven, she founded Yale Chinese Painting and Calligraphy group and has since taught a weekly art class at Yale International Center. She has been invited to give many Chinese painting and calligraphy classes, workshops, lectures or demonstrations in schools, colleges, art galleries, libraries and museums in different communities. She has also given exhibitions of her work in Connecticut.
