Yale-China Speech Competition Winners Announcement

2020 May 28

Several months ago, the Yale-China teachers came together after leaving China due to the global pandemic. Our hope was that even from abroad, we could find a way to still stay connected to our students and continue to see them grow as English speakers. This is how the idea of the Yale-China Foreign Teachers Speech Competition was born.

Over the next several months, we were extremely impressed by the excitement of students and teachers at our four partner schools: Yuanling #1, Yuanling #2, Xiuning Middle School, and Yali Middle School. And most of all, we were impressed with the quality of their English, and the strength of their speeches.

Now, after receiving over 130 speeches, and finishing two rounds of judging done by current and former Yale-China teachers, we have selected one winner from each school, and several honourable mentions who also submitted exceptional speeches.

Here are our prize winners:

From Yuanling #1,

Honorable Mention goes to Marshall

and First Place goes to Venny.

From Yuanling #2,

First Place goes to Felicia.

From Xiuning Middle School,

Honorable Mention goes to Stella,

and First Place goes to Harper.

From Yali Middle School,

Honorable Mentions go to Jerry and Murphy,

and First Place goes to Li JingRong.

The overall winner of the Yale China Foreign Teachers Speech Competition, the champion from all four schools, is Li JingRong.

Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who put hard work and creativity into their speeches. You continue to inspire us!
