The conference on “Between Monumentalism and Miniaturization: Thinking Big and Small in Contemporary Culture” was held on 11 and 12 June 2015 at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, with the support from the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, the Faculty of Arts and Lee Woo Sing College. The conference attracted a crowd of around 100 persons for the Centre’s launch ceremony and Professor Rey Chow’s keynote speech, entitled “Space, Scales, and Remains: Some Evolving Conceptual Thresholds in Our Time”. The two-day conference was attended by between 40-50 people on both days. There were fruitful and vibrant discussions on perception and understanding of bigness and smallness, including but not limited to the fields of visual cultural studies, popular cultural studies, arts studies, space studies, and China studies.
