Working toward a PhD in Laws, expected 2021

Callixte MBONIGABA is a PhD student at Faculty of Law, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has a strong education background in law as before commencing his PhD studies, he has already a nine years education in law, including two years of master of law in international law from Xiamen University in China; four years of bachelor’s degree in law from National University of Rwanda; and three years of secondary school in law and administration from Lycee de Muhura in Rwanda. Besides, prior to his undergraduate studies in law, Callixte has also learnt philosophy at Institut Isidore Bakanja in Democratic Republic of Congo.

THESIS TOPIC

State Responsibility for Violations of International Law by Rebels , co-supervised by Professors Michael RAMSDEN and Samuli SEPPÄNEN.

RESEARCH INTERESTS AND AIMS

Callixte is interested in public international law, international humanitarian law, international human rights law and law of international responsibility. With his thesis, he hopes to provide a contribution to the issue of accountability on human rights violations committed by rebel groups during internal armed conflicts.
