8 No. 403, 19.9.2012 遙感影像融合技術重大突破 Breakthrough in Remote Sensing Image Fusion Technology 由地理與資源管理學系及太空與地球信息科學研究所黃波教授領導的精細遙感研究 團隊，成功開發全球首項一體化遙感影像融合技術，能有效捕捉高密度城市環境下 複雜的空間結構和動態變化信息，產生同時具高空間、時間、光譜及角度分辨率的合 成影像。這項技術對環境、生態及災害的監測有十分重要的意義。研究成果已刊載於 國際知名遙感領域期刊 IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing 。  The Precision Remote Sensing Group led by Prof. Huang Bo of the Department of Geography and Resource Management and the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science has developed the world’s first unified remote sensing image fusion technology to generates synthetic imagery with simultaneously high spatial, temporal, spectral, and angular resolution. This technology can capture complex structures and changes in a dynamic, high-density urban environment, contributing to environmental and ecosystem monitoring. Related papers have been published in prestigious journals, including IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing . 羅桂祥綜合生物醫學大樓開幕 Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building Opens 羅桂祥綜合生物醫學大樓開幕典禮在8月29日舉行，逾一百五十名嘉賓及大學成員出席。 大樓的主要用戶為生物醫學學院，藥劑學院則位處大樓八樓全層。 The grand opening of the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building, attended by 150 guests and members of the University, was held on 29 August. The School of Biomedical Sciences is the main occupant of the building. And the School of Pharmacy occupies the 8th floor of the building. 第三屆全球金融菁英領導研討班 Third Executive Leadership Programme in Global Finance 全球經濟及金融研究所舉辦的第三屆 「全球金融菁英領導研討班」於8月31日 圓滿結束。十多名國際星級講師，包括三 位諾貝爾經濟科學獎得主莫理斯爵士、蒙 代爾教授、斯科爾斯教授，以及前中國銀 行業監督管理委員會主席劉明康教授、中 國證券監督管理委員會副主席劉新華博 士、前香港金融管理局總裁任志剛教授、 前香港證券及期貨事務監督管理委員會 主席沈聯濤博士、前中大校長及藍饒富暨 藍凱麗經濟學講座教授劉遵義教授等，在 一連五天的課程中講授多個重要經濟課 題，為四十多名參加研討班的金融界高級行政人員提供培訓。 The Institute of Global Economics and Finance concluded its third Executive Leadership Programme in Global Finance on 31 August. The programme invited more than 10 internationally distinguished lecturers, including three Nobel Laureates in Economic Sciences, namely, Sir James Mirrlees, Prof. Robert A. Mundell, Prof. Myron S. Scholes; and Prof. Liu Minkang, former chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission; Dr. Liu Xinhua, vice chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commissions; Prof. Joseph Yam, former chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority; Dr. Andrew Sheng, former chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission; and Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Ralph and Claire Landau Professor of Economics. These economists and business leaders lectured on a variety of important topics. The programme attracted over 40 senior officials and executives engaged in global finance. 幹細胞與再生醫學聯合實驗室成立 Joint Research Laboratory on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Established 國家科學技術部基礎研究司重大科學研究計劃處傅小 鋒處長於8月23至24日到訪中大，與中大校長沈祖堯、中 國科學院港澳台事務辦公室主任張興根，一起為中大─ 中國科學院廣州生物醫藥與健康研究院幹細胞與再生醫 學聯合實驗室主持成立典禮。 Prof. Fu Xiaofeng, director of the Major Research Programme Division, the Ministry of Science and Technology visited CUHK from 23 to 24 August. Together with Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Mr. Zhang Xinggen, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Office of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Prof. Fu officiated at the establishment ceremony of the CUHK-Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, CAS Joint Research Laboratory on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. 工程學生研發手語翻譯系統奪冠 Engineering Students Win Intel Cup Contest 計算機科學與工程學系三名本科生舒劍飛、陳俊杰、劉 瑞峰在徐強教授的指導下，利用微軟的Kinect體感技術 感應器記錄手語手勢的三維坐標，研發出嶄新的中文手 語翻譯系統。他們憑藉這套系統參加上海舉行的「2012 英特爾盃大學生電子設計競賽嵌入式系統專題邀請 賽」，勇奪全場最高殊榮英特爾盃，令中大成為全港首所 兩度贏得該獎的院校。  Under the supervision of Prof. Xu Qiang, Shu Jianfei, Chan Chun-kit, Liu Ruifeng from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering developed the 'Chinese Sign Language Recognition and Translation System' with Microsoft Kinect. With this innovative design, the team won the championship in the 2012 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest— Embedded System Design Invitational Contest held in Shanghai, making CUHK the first local university to have won the contest twice.
