31 學 術 發 展 Academic Development • 理學院於二零零七年九月召開生物科學科校外專家委員會，檢討及制定未來之 研究方向，並把重點研究範疇定為BIO-X，即由生物及醫學引伸之泛學科生命科 學研究。二零零七至零八年度，學院就相關課題共舉行了八次午餐月會講座，又 聘請一名研究助理教授協助推動有關研究工作。 A Visiting Committee for Biological Sciences was convened in September 2007 to review the research performance of the biological science disciplines and to advise the Faculty of Science on existing and future research directions. BIO-X, which focuses on interdisciplinary life science research connected to biology and medicine, has been identified as a strategic area of development. Eight monthly lunch seminars on BIO-X related research had been held in 2007–08 and a research assistant professor was recruited to pursue developments in this regard. •學院獲教育局委託，為五十二名中三及中四資優生提供密集式訓練，當中六人 於二零零七年十二月代表香港前往台灣出席第四屆國際青年科學奧林匹克比 賽，獲得歷來最佳的一銀五銅成績。學院繼續提供訓練予資優生，為二零零八 年於南韓舉行之第五屆比賽作準備。 The Faculty was commissioned by the Education Bureau to provide training for 52 Secondary Three and Four students, six of whom were subsequently selected to compete in the fourth International Junior Science Olympiad held in Taiwan in December 2007. The event came to a fruitful conclusion with all six students winning a medal — one silver and five bronze — the best ever result for Hong Kong. The Faculty continued to provide training for the gifted students in the fifth annual competition held in South Korea in 2008. 理學院大事掠影 Major Events in the Faculty of Science • 中大於二零零八年三月獲國家科學技術部批准成立農業生物 技術國家重點實驗室（香港中文大學），實驗室將研究如何透 過分子生物技術，改良水稻品種、提升產量、增加營養成份， 以及加強農作物的抗逆性。 The State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK) was set up with the endorsement of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China in March 2008. The laboratory was positioned at the national level and would carry out research on the development of molecular biotechnology in agriculture, increase in rice yield, improvement of the nutritive value of rice and crop resistance. 1 3 2 1.
