Deignan神父，另頒發八千七百多個 博士、碩士及學士學位。 Richard Charles Levin 教授現任美國耶魯大學校長，對 耶魯大學的國際化、強化科學及工程課程，以及校園建設 及擴展等各方面建樹良多，是美國長春藤大學校長裏最 受欽佩的一位。他在任期間，中大新亞書院與耶魯合辦學 生交流計劃，耶魯神學院和崇基學院神學院簽訂學術合 作備忘錄，促進師生交流。他獲頒授榮譽法學博士學位。 榮鴻曾 教授為美國匹茲堡大學音樂系榮休教授，精研中 國傳統音樂及文化，曾發表文章六十多篇及專著十種，主 題包括粵劇、廣東曲藝、七絃琴、文化權、禮儀音樂等；榮 教授曾擔任中大音樂系講師、校外考試委員及中國文化研 究所顧問委員會委員。中大授予榮教授榮譽文學博士學 位，以表揚他對傳統中國音樂文化的研究、教學、及推廣 的貢獻。 Alfred J. Deignan 神父為耶穌會士，一生致力教育事業， 積極推廣全人教育，實踐立己助人的教育理念。他與一群 熱心的教育家在1997年創立香港國際教賢學院，宏揚基 本人文價值，並擔任理事會主席一職至今。Deignan神父 對中大厚愛有加，自1994年 起為聯合書院湯若望宿舍主 持主日彌撒。他獲頒授榮譽 社會科學博士學位。 除了榮譽博士及博士，大學 於假林蔭大道舉行的第七十 一屆大會中，頒授學位予碩 士及學士畢業生。校長沈祖 堯教授致辭時，勉勵畢業生 要懂得感恩：「懂得感恩，就 自然快樂。面前放着半杯水， 你看到的杯子是半滿，而非 中大頒授學位典禮 Congregations for the 榮鴻曾教授（左） Prof. Bell Yung (left) Conferment of Degrees Richard Charles Levin 教授透過錄像致辭 Prof. Richard Charles Levin presenting his video message 半空。你會明白世界上沒有甚麼事是理所當然 的，無論是健康、家人、愛人或者機會。你在這 個年紀所擁有的一切，所獲得的成就，是這個 世界上許多人想也無法想像的。知道滿足便會 快樂。」 沈祖堯校長同時頒發傑出教學及研究獎予二 十五名優秀的教研人員，嘉許他們的卓越成 就。其中首年設立的博文教學獎，是表揚校內 學者對推動優質教學的貢獻，包括透過課程 設計、教與學相關的學術活動及研究，以及運 用以學生為本的教學方法，豐富學生的學習 體驗。 邊註邊讀 Marginalia 中大首屆頒發學位的大會在1964年假大會堂舉行，一百八十名 畢業生獲頒發學士學位和文憑，大會自1976年開始在大學校園 舉行。 從本期「昔與今」的老照片所見，1976年舉行畢業禮的林蔭大道 沒有頂蓬遮蔽，畢業生逐一走上禮台領取證書。到了今天，供畢業 生、他們家人和嘉賓就坐的座位佔滿整條長一百八十米的林蔭大 道，畢業生也不再一一親接證書。每當林蔭大道上架起金黃色的 帳蓬，我們就知道新一代的中大人即將走出校門，遠征四方。 親友有的送花，有的送上玩具熊； 周保松 教授則向他班上的畢業 生寫信，討論學問與生命的意義，繼續知性和感性的對話。這些信 函部分收錄在他的新著，本期也會介紹這本書。 演化心理學家 Steven Pinker 說過：「我們愛吃芝士蛋糕，不是因 為我們在演化過程中發展出對此物的喜好，而是因為它是由大量 愜意的刺激物混合而成，我們調製出這種東西是有明確目的，就 是按動令我們愉悅的按鈕。色情作品是另一種旨在令人愉悅的技 術……藝術則是第三種。」本期「舌尖上的中大」介紹一種麻辣的 愜意刺激，供讀者想像。網上讀者如覺得它還可以，不妨按一下 「讚好」。 The first Congregation of the University to confer bachelor’s degrees and diplomas on 180 graduands was held in the City Hall in 1964. Since 1976, the Congregations, mostly held for the purpose of conferring undergraduate, postgraduate and honorary degrees, have been held on University campus. As can be seen from the old photo in this issue’s ‘Then vs Now’, it was an uncanopied ceremony on the University Mall in 1976 and graduands walked up to the platform to receive their degrees. Today, the seating of the graduating class with their families and guests take up the entire length of the 180-metre long University Mall, and the graduands do not walk up individually to receive the degrees. But when the golden marquee is erected over the Mall, we know a new generation of CUHK members is ready to take off and conquer the world. Some well-wishers give flowers; some teddy bears. Prof. Chow Po-chung writes letters to his departing students, discussing what learning and life mean, and continues his intellectual and sentimental dialogues with them. Some of these missives are collected in his new book which is reviewed herein. The evolutionary psychologist Steven Pinker has said, ‘We enjoy cheesecake not because we evolved a taste for it but because it is a brew of megadoses of agreeable stimuli which we concocted for the express purpose of pressing our pleasure buttons. Pornography is another pleasure technology … the arts are a third.’ In ‘Mouth-watering Morsels’, we give your imagination agreeable stimuli of a spicy nature.
