Prof. Ngai Ngan Pun, professor in the Department of Social Work, has been elected as the president of the Research • Committee on Sociology of Youth (RC34) of the International Sociological Association for a termof four years fromAugust 2006 to July 2010. He has also been appointed as an assessment panel member (under the category of local academics) of the Social Workers Registration Board by the Social Workers Registration Board for a term of three years from 2006 to 2009. Prof. Ma Lai Chong Joyce, professor in the Department of Social Work, has been elected as a member of the Social Workers • Registration Board for three years from 16 January 2007. She has also been appointed by the Ministry of Civil Affairs of the People’s Republic of China as a member of the National Committee on Social Work Professional Qualification Recognition on 5 December 2006 for three years. Contributions should be sent direct to that office for registration and verification before publication.) 中大與浙江大學合研天然藥物及毒理 CUHK and Zhejiang University Deepen Collaboration with Joint Laboratory on Natural Products and Toxicology Research 浙 江大學發展委員會主席張浚生教授及校長楊衛教 授上月中率領十六人代表團訪問中大,於十五日 續簽校際合作和交換生協議,並舉行天然藥物與毒理學 研究聯合實驗室的開幕儀式。 兩校亦簽訂協議及備忘錄,深化交流和合作,除合設天 然藥物與毒理學研究聯合實驗室,更有意成立香港中文 大學—浙江大學高等光電科技聯合研究中心。 天然藥物與毒理學研究聯合實驗室的核心目標,是建立 國家天然藥物與生物毒素資源的數據庫,並利用具有自 主知識產權的資源開發新藥,以預防和治療腫瘤及病毒 病等重大疾病。中大生物化學系系主任馮國培教授及浙 大思源天然藥物與生物毒素研究中心主任吳平教授分別 出任聯合中心主任。 中大和浙大於光電科技研究上均實力雄厚,成立香港中 文大學—浙江大學高等光電科技聯合研究中心,必能發 揮雙方的學術優勢,共同研究與開發光學的創新應用, 對科學及工程學科作出貢獻。 中大和浙大在學術交流及科研合作上的關係穩定而長 久,早於一九九九年共建生物醫學工程聯合研究中心, 並在二零零三年開展本科學生交換計劃。 浙大成立於一八九七年,是歷史悠久的綜合研究型大 學,亦是首批進入國家「211工程」和「985計劃」建設 的重點大學之一。兩校簽訂的協議及備忘錄彰顯中文大 學與國家一流大學的持久良好合作關係,雙方共建的研 究中心將進一步開拓特區及國家的科研合作發展空間。 T he Chinese University of Hong Kong and Zhejiang University (ZJU) signed collaboration agreements and opened the Joint Laboratory on Natural Products and Toxicology Research on 15 January 2007. Four collaboration agreements were renewed or signed to deepen the long-term academic partnership between these two major universities of China. Prof. Zhang Junsheng, Chairman of ZJU Development Committee, and Prof. Yang Wei, President of ZJU, led a 16-member delegation to CUHK. CUHK and ZJU renewed their university-wide collaboration and student exchange agreements to strengthen research cooperations as well as academic and student exchanges. Prof. Fung Kwok-pui, Chairman of the Department of Biochemistry of CUHK, and Prof. Wu Ping, Director of the Institute of Natural Drugs and Biotoxins of ZJU, are directors of the joint centre. The universities also intend to establish the Joint Centre for Advanced Photonics Research of CUHK and ZJU. CUHK and ZJU are both strong in photonics. The field of advanced photonics has tremendous R&Dpotential in functional capabilities and novel applications, and contributes to virtually every scientific and engineering discipline. CUHK and ZJU have enjoyed a long partnership. The Joint Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering was established in 1999 and student exchanges began in 2003. Zhejiang University, founded in 1897, is a top-ranking comprehensive research university in Mainland China. It is also a key institution listed in the ‘211 Project’ and the ‘985 Plan’. Agreements between the universities represent CUHK’s close partnership with a leading national university. The joint centres will excel in medical and scientific research and serve as crucial platforms for extending their achievements to benefit the wider Chinese community.
