MoreTrain the trainers: Minority girls and gender justice (KPF18SCF30) (Funded by SIE)
Transnational social movements have shaped minority women’s perceptions towards gender equality. However the lack of space for them to learn about gender issues in the local context and the capacity to speak out have subsequently created some stereotypes against minority women by the general public. This in turn has hindered minority women’s social integration into Hong Kong society. Through gender equality trainings and liaising with local ethnic minority women’s groups, this project seeks to empower minority Muslim young women to articulate gender equality ideas and combat stereotypes against minority women.

Debates on social policy and law related to sexual orientation and gender identity are often overshadowed by emotional debates in Hong Kong rather than based on social scientific empirical evidence. This project seeks to address this by using diverse ways to disseminate the research conducted about sexual orientation and gender identity. Currently such scientific findings are inaccessible to beneficiaries because of the boring write-up. By employing different ways of presentation such as policy brief, infographics, video etc via an interactive website, pamphlets and presentation files, the project engages the general public with evidence base for debates on social policy and law related to sexual orientation and gender identity in an accessible manner.

This project is to transfer nutrition knowledge by developing a website for public access. Although nutrition information can be found through various channels (television, magazines, internet, etc.), those resources are not always accurate and reliable. There are nutrition websites developed by professional organizations, but most of them are overseas organizations; thus the information on those websites may not be applicable for local use. Identifying reliable information can be difficult and confusing for general population. Therefore, developing a reliable website for free access will be beneficial to the public.

For increased awareness and cultural change amongst healthcare workers, high quality web-based teaching materials will be developed and produced to facilitate teaching of courses on Patient Safety to all levels of staff involved in direct patient contact - from orderlies and receptionists to senior clinicians. E-learning combined with traditional face-to-face small group teaching will be offered. There will also be train-the-trainers courses and the experienced trainers will then be able to provide the training so as to achieve cascading dissemination of the course.
