Fostering research in the Faculty of Engineering
Research is about "educational preparation" as well as "fostering innovative ideas". In short, what kind of education do our graduate students need to enable them to tackle challenging and important research problems?
Printed Electronics Enabling Smarter Wearable Devices

Recently, wearable electronic devices such as fitness watches and wristbands have emerged as a new platform for health monitoring. However, very few of such products have the capability to measure blood pressure (BP) due to the technical complexity in extracting reliable BP values.

Sharing Visual Content with Colour Blind Persons

Colour vision deficiency (CVD) refers to reduced ability in differentiating colours. Approximately 250 million people (about 4% of the human population) suffer from CVD. Persons with CVD are usually unable to clearly discriminate certain colours (e.g., red and green), thereby leading to misunderstanding, inconvenience, or even danger in daily life.

Vision-based Intelligent Forklift System

Vision-based Intelligent Forklift AGV System, a research project led by Prof. Liu Yun-hui, Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, and Director of CUHK T Stone Robotics Institute, is one of the most successful examples of a start-up assisted by the Office of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services of CUHK. The robotic technology enables a forklift truck to navigate and control its motion, and avoid obstacles independently.
